Botrytis leaf blight of onion, caused by Botrytis squamosa, is a highly destructive disease. The disease can
affect the onion crop at any phenological stage, but curiously, in the conditions of Santa Catarina State, it
has been more relevant during the seedling production phase. This trial aimed to evaluate the effect of foliar
and soil applications of Trichoderma asperellum URM 5911 and T. harzianum IBLF 006 in controlling
botrytis leaf blight, under field conditions. We used the cv. SCS373 Valessul. The disease occurred
naturally. The experimental plots simulated a seedbed condition and were composed of 8 grams of seeds
(randomly distributed) in an area of approximately 2 m2 Foliar spraying of Trichoderma species has been an alternative for controlling some foliar diseases. More
studies are needed to recommend this control strategy. Furthermore, it is necessary to understand whether
the reduction in the severity of botrytis leaf blight occurred by direct mechanisms such as antibiosis and
competition, or an indirect mechanism such as induction of resistance. |
